How it all started:
The Club was formed in September 1999 and soon attracted a popular following
with over 50 members enrolling in the first six months.
Membership has since grown to over
220 and is now the largest postcard club in the
UK.
Collectors have been drawn from Plymouth and West Devon,
all parts of Cornwall from
Penzance to Launceston, and much further afield!
The inaugural date has been commemorated in the postmark which has become
the Club’s official logo. The aim of the Club is to bring together
postcard collectors and provide opportunities to:
Ø enhance
member's knowledge of collecting
Ø buy
and sell postcards from reputable dealers
Ø listen
to guest speakers talking about a wide variety of fascinating topics
Ø receive
an informative Newsletter with postcard features sent regularly to each
member’s home address and:
Ø enjoy the fellowship of other collectors at monthly meetings and other
activities during the year
Meetings
held on the second Wednesday of the month feature guest speakers covering a
wide range of topics, often postcard–related, and regular displays of
members’ collections.
Two dealers are also in attendance to give members an opportunity to buy or
sell or just browse through hundreds of cards of every description.
Special events include:
Ø an
annual Bring and Buy sale exclusively for members to trade cards and
ephemera between themselves
Ø a
summer walkabout around a Devon or Cornwall location with the services of an
official guide, followed by a buffet supper
